Context
An academic project for a zine-making course in a master’s program in editorial and publication design, aimed at coffee enthusiasts in Guatemala City.
Process
The topic was chosen from the assignment brief. All written content was developed, along with how it would be structured, before laying it out in InDesign with the selected typefaces and edited supporting images. Complementary elements were added — background imagery, a masthead band, and color — then a print test was run, followed by size and position adjustments to certain elements and text.
Impact
Previewing the zine with regular cafe customers and a few baristas got a positive response — readers appreciated the poems included instead of promotional pages. The red ink turned out to be the most accurate of the colors printed.
Learnings
I learned a more efficient way to print the document with better color accuracy, and how to make better use of space for multi-column text layouts.
